River Kennet. Wiltshire, UK.
Our rivers, oceans, lakes and wetlands are remarkable places. Without them, there would be no life on Earth.
They provide us with water to drink and food to eat. They’re home to an astounding array of fish, animal and plant life.
But our water habitats are under severe threat from dangers like climate change and pollution.

The Blue Mile 2010
Through The Blue Mile, WWF is raising money to protect these amazing environments.
We’re asking people to move a mile on or near water in return for sponsorship from family and friends. You can do this any way you want: swim or surf, kayak or water-ski, walk or run…Everyone can get involved, no matter what your age or fitness.
From protecting the habitats of endangered species like whales and turtles to making clean drinking water accessible to everyone on the planet, all money raised will go towards our work to protect the world’s water.
Hold your own Blue Mile event
We are asking schools, community groups and people all across the UK to organise their own Blue Mile events.
Could you kayak a mile for WWF? Or even just organise a group walk along your local coast or river? As long as you complete your mile on or near water, you can do anything you like for your event.
Why not set yourself a personal Blue Mile challenge? You could try to beat your best time in your favourite water sport. Or test yourself with a unique challenge and get sponsored for your efforts.
However you choose to do your Blue Mile, one thing is guaranteed: we’ll support you every stroke, kick or paddle of the way with top training tips and fundraising advice.
Just register with us, download our fundraising pack and start collecting sponsorship.
Our flagship London event
Our flagship Blue Mile event on Sunday 4 September 2011 at Stoke Newington West Reservoir Centre in north London was a great success. Thanks to everyone who took part.
